It seems May is the month of Madge – a fedora-sporting Madonna is on the cover of not one, but two editions of Elle magazine for May, in the US and UK. In the US version (on the left), Madge is looking prim and proper (and a little stiff if you ask me) in her midnight blue dress, while in the black-and-white UK version, she looks much more dynamic and probably in mid-pose of one of her signature dance moves. I much prefer the UK version as it seems to capture her personality better. What say you?

I see it a little differently. UK is like Vintage Madonna. You know, "the Girlie Show" tour, the "Justify My Love" video, the Sex book.
US is the image she has been honing more since Ray of Light, Evita, "The English Roses" book.
The real question is, which is the real Madge? Frankly I think the answer is somewhere in the middle.
Now if only she had been wearing the clothes of the US shoot in the pose of the UK shoot - then we could see the melding of the two.
acadian - it's funny, because I was thinking the very same thing (that the black-and-white is vintage Madonna, while the in-colour one is Madonna circa now). but I still think the "vintage" Madonna is the "real" Madonna, even though she doesn't really dress like that anymore.
Some have also said M. in the black-and-white shot looks almost exactly like Rihanna's get-up in the Umbrella video. crazy!
