skin fix: ar457 skin cleanser

I've always thought that skin cleansing should be about getting a good lather on and working the skin until it's squeaky clean. Such is the reasoning of the oily-skinned girl, who just wants to get rid of the grease. But perhaps I was wrong, because I'm finding that using a gentler touch, and a lighter hand, can deliver glow-getting results, provided you're using the right cleanser, of course, and for me, that would be ar457's Skin Cleanser. I've mentioned this space-agey brand before – (no pun intended here, since it's available at buzz-worthy beauty apothecary Space NK) – but just to refresh: it's a French line based on the healing benefits of Morocco-sourced, skin-nourishing antoxidant argan oil. (Coincidentally, Elle magazine spotlights this wonder ingredient this month in its green issue. I also wrote about it as one of my top beauty trends for 2008.)
So yes, it's a cleanser based on oil, which tends to set off alarm bells in the heads of oily-skinned girls, but having tried an oil-based cleanser before and loved it, I was game to try this one. Its application is a bit different than most cleansers, in that you use a water-soaked cotton pad, drizzled with the oil, and apply it to dry skin without rinsing. The effect is actually quite refreshing and it removes all traces of makeup – and all existing oil – in a flash. The result is cleansed, glowified skin (seriously, my skin looked radiant) with no need for applying moisturizer afterwards, since skin is pleasantly nourished. This stuff isn't cheap, but you only need to use a few drops at a time for cleansing, and this would last for months to come.
