face of the day: versace spring 2010 ready-to-wear

You might think that purple is a color synonymous only with the cool and crisp temperatures of fall – and there's no doubt that it's the color of the season when it comes to fashion and beauty (and my personal favorite color). But a couple of designers in New York and Milan, namely Michael Kors and Versace, have reclaimed the moody hue, with a lighter touch, for spring. In New York at Kors, models sported aubergine and lilac eyeshadow, and here at Versace, eyes were shaded in matte violet. Veering to the more subtle end of the color spectrum, the soft wash of shadow on the upper and lower eyelids was immensely flattering. And paired with nude lips, the effect was soft and fresh, rather than bright and bold. Love the bouncy, tousled, Gisele-like hair, too.

Purple is my favorite color too! :) Good to see it as a trend these seasons. I HAVE to know what shadow they used on Lily Donaldson---that color looks amazing.

Hi Doreen,
I'm not sure of the exact color used (but if I find out, I'll definitely post it!), but I think a good match would likely be MAC Eyeshadow in Violet Trance or Purple Haze. They're both matte, so you can sort of sculpt around the eye with them.
Hope this helps!
:) Kristen

Oooh, so pretty. I love purples and lilacs for eyes of all colour. Such an outrageously feminine look.

Hi Kristen,

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll definitely be checking them out at my MAC counter soon. I think that Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Gossip might be a good fit, too. Or, maybe Clinique Quick Eyes Cream Shadow in Rock Violet? Hmm...

Kristen, the slideshow gives some nice closeups and directions for the makeup look. Still don't know the shades yet, though.

Doreen - I did a little sleuthing and found out which shades were used at the Versace show. Women's Wear Daily says that Pat McGrath used a lavender liquid eyeliner on the lash line, then blended Cover Girl Purple Pop shadow all over the lid and under the bottom lash. She finished with Cover Girl LashBlast Mascara in Black.
There you have it. :)
