face of the day: alexander mcqueen fall 2008

It seems that designers are increasingly loving the bare-faced, no-makeup-makeup look. And in Alexander McQueen's case, I can kind of see why: all the better to show off his stunning creations and more specifically, these amazing bejewelled headdresses the models wore at his fall '08 show at Paris Fashion Week. The spare, pale yet flawless skin becomes the perfect stage to let these Indian-inspired jewels shine. But at least the hair gets special treatment. I'm loving the hair too - piled and folded expertly atop the head, it almost becomes an extension of the ornate headpieces.
And granted, it's so far out from anything you'd wear in everyday life, but revelling in the fantasy is fun, isn't it?

it's funny, i did a duble take when i looked at the close up and wondered if she was even wearing any make up.

i can see the fantasy in this look. quotidian hair styles like that featured would get old fast, but imagine going to the opera, symphony or just a really romantic dinner with that style and you know that every eye is going to be on the nape of your neck or smallness of your ears or the softness of your back. ahhhh, the mystery!
