only in new york: naked yoga

New Yorkers are a sophisticated bunch – always looking for the next big thing, always needing that extra element of surprise to heighten the senses and take their experiences beyond the level of the everyday. (Take the concept of dining in the dark, for example.) So perhaps it's no surprise that NYC is the hotbed, so to speak, for the latest trend: naked yoga. It's exactly what it sounds like – participants and the instructor are completely nude, and ritually disrobe at the start of the class – and yes, it's co-ed. But the founders of Naked Yoga NYC insist there's nothing sexual about the practice, which seeks to "remove energy blocks, belief patterns and body armor that inhibit the natural rhythmic flow of prana in the body." I came across this bold new practice in the May issue of Elle U.K., and the writer behind the piece, Annemarie Conte, after much trepidation, actually enjoyed the experience. You may be wondering, well, what if something 'comes up' in class? You won't be shunned, says Naked Yoga: "Body energy, flows and functions are a natural part of having a body and a natural part of participating in a yoga class."
Kind of puts a new spin on the idea of "hot yoga", doesn't it?

i thought yoga was supposed to be about love, peace, happiness, wellness. instead, this just makes me feel unpretty and miserable.

if it is about this, you might as well assume that i have been knocked-out
